Norman Mardi Gras 2025!
The Annual Norman Mardi Gras Parade is returning to Downtown Norman on Saturday, March 1st at 7pm and this year’s theme is Pollinator Palooza! We talked with Norman Mardi Gras event organizer, Karen Roady, about the latest goings on for the event!
What’s been going on in the Mardi Gras parade world and your circles lately?
We love seeing how different cities put their own spin on Mardi Gras, and it's amazing to watch our own community come together in creative ways. The Kick and Create sessions at OSC-Press this Saturday Feb 22nd from 4-6 and next Wednesday from 5-7 PM are a great way for people to get involved, make fun decorations, and add their personal touch to the parade!
Favorite bands / albums / floats / masks lately?
My favorite band right now is Thumpasaurus—I encourage everyone to check them out! Their energy and sound would be perfect for a Mardi Gras party. As for floats and masks, I love seeing bold, creative designs that really embrace the spirit of the celebration!
What in particular have y’all been working on to get ready for March 1st?
We’ve been finalizing paperwork, organizing floats and performers, and making sure everything runs smoothly. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work, but it’s all worth it to bring the party to Norman!
Visual artists or krewes (or whatever people) you’ve been digging lately?
We’re really into artists who create bold, colorful visuals. Uncanny Art House and the Resonator, both on Main St, are great places to see interesting and inspiring work.
Tips, Tricks, Techniques?
Find a spot on the parade route and have fun. The parade goes on, rain or shine, so be prepared. Dress up if you want, bring a bag for beads, and don’t be shy about getting into the spirit!
